Everyone knows Aiken is a very homey town, what activities to do you find to do here? Students should use this post to describe wholesome activities they partake in during their free time & off days.

  1. Being from Detroit, MI, Aiken is definitely a way smaller town than I'm used to. However you can find intresting activites if you try hard enough! There is a bowling alley & a night club in town. Although Aiken does have a mall, Augusta has a much nicer one thats only a few minutes away. Pretty much anything you could want to do can be found in Augusta. Furthermore, if you're feeling really adventourous, Atlanta is only a couple hours away. Myself, I am a shopper so I've been to the malls in Aiken, Augusta, & Atlanta already. But there are fun things nearby for every personality type, you just have to find them!

  3. Well since I'm from Augusta, I tend to go home almost everyday. There's really nothing to do in Aiken at all, so Augusta is where I be at. I know my roomies be like, "She aint never here" LOL!!! Anyways, when I'm in the lil "A" I chill with my friends, go to parties, and to the mall. That's the typical teenage life for me. When I'm in Aiken the only thing I do is sleep and get up for class the next day. The only time I'm really there is when we got class and have to go to SRS. Other than that I'm in Augusta. Bet you can guess where I'm at now!!!

  4. Well from what I see is a mall and that's is about it. I think to find something to do you need to go Augusta or North Augusta. I am down for a cookout one of these weekends though. Your boy got skills so im volunteering myself as one of the chefs. Ya'll just let me know what you'all want me to hookup. A couple of us are in the process of getting a list together now so that we can tell Mrs. Grant and they can hook us up with some money. Besides a cookout would be a great way to get everyone interacting and socializing.

  5. I am a simple person so playing video games, cards, or just watching television will keep me entertain. Because I live in the country where there not alot to do. All I can say is that if possible have transportation so you won't have to stay on campus. Aiken has some stuff to do but if you like to party go to Augusta. i went there the other day cause i got a cousin that stay out there. but other than that i can deal with Aiken.

  6. There's obviously more to do in Orangeburg, but since it is the opposite here, I spend most of the free time playing ping pong with an "upcoming" star. I also do visit the computer room or at times hang out with fellow interns. I still want to explore this little Aiken and see what fun there is to have outside this campus.

  7. Coming from metro-Atlanta this is a very big change then what I am used to. But my roommate and I have met some of the coolest dudes in SC. Jeff and Will always have us laughing and always have us entertained. Although we dont share class(which I think is a good thing) they always find thierselves in our room or us in thier room. But other than that their isnt much to do in Aiken. My suggestion to anyone that is thinking, or coming to the next session- BRING A CAR! Augusta is like 15 minutes away and their mall is decent. and they supposed to have a couple clubs there if thats your cup of tea but I suggest to bring anything that entertain you because it gets a little boring around the dorm.

  8. I dont do much with my free time. I just do a lil work, play ping pong , and sometimes act up in front of my camera(this is when I am super bored) There is a mall here in Aiken, and a close one in Augusta, so sometimes I catch a ride and see whats up... It is really a lot to do though.... waiting for the welness center to open, maybe it will really help.,

  9. Today Professor Wilson invited us interns to a Polo game. Be there was a new experiance for because I never been to a Polo match. I had lot of fun taking pictures, padding the turf during halftime and being in that atmosphere. At they served us some chicken, and lamb, it was great. After the polo match we followed professer Wilson to an ice cream shop called Blue Chill ice cream, the had different flavors of ice cream that I have never herd of. I had Birthday cakr ice cream. When we were done walked around downtown Aiken, and realize that Aiken has more to offer that expected. I had a good time to day

  10. Our TA's put together a barbeque for the interns on Saturday. They even accomodated my vegetarianism and cooked veggie burgers!! I am not the biggest fan of the outdoors so I didn't stay long after eating. Nevertheless, it was a great opportunity for the interns to bond and proof that you can create your own fun in Aiken!

  11. free time!!! well i do a lot in my free time.! or at least try to. i went to Augusta mall since Aiken is just pitiful. Do they actually expect us to find things to do there!?! LOL not even. I went to ATL and this weekend in in Detroit for my parents 30th anniversary party. Congrats to them!!! I definitely enjoyed myself here although the weather change wasnt as pleasent. :( i got off the plane and it was rainy and there was a chill to the air. I think the high was 65. Which was about a 30 degree difference from what i left in Aiken. Cant wait to get back. I miss my ENV 492 interns. And my suite mate Star!!!

  12. Today is sunday and no there was no class. So im over here in the AUG chillin. There is nothing in aiken, so why stay. I rather over here with da fam enjoying my momma's cooking. Dont get me wrong, i still do enjoy the intership & class, but when there is no class i just come back home. Its only 15 minutes away so im good. But i do tend to waste gas...LOL!!!

  13. I think a little Sunday exploration headed by Dr. Wilson has shown that little Aiken is not as 'dry' as it looks viewing from this campus. The greatest challenge is always making something out of nothing, and we are surely working on that....

  14. This past week our instructor Mr. Wilson invited us to something new. A real POLO match. Yes with the horses and everything. I know you probrably thinking that it was boring. NOPE, it was AWESOME. I had so much fun. It was exilirating. We watched the game, stomped the yard on breaks, took alot of pictures, I ate lamb for the first time ever and it was pretty good. I had a woderful time there. Then on the way to our cars Mr. Wilson told us that the day was just beginning, He took us to the Blue Bell Ice Cream Shop and bought everybody some ice cream, I thought that was so sweet. Then we walked around downtown Aiken. It was very fun. He is very open minded and show us many things. I love this program.

  15. The polo match was great. It was more fun that I expected. We watched the game, and during the breaks, we helped to put back the grass in place. We took a lot of pictures and had this free food, and a free.... I also played a little soccer to remind myself of the old me at home.lol.. The experience is worth having the more.... I guess I must be there again..... Thanks to Mr. Wilson

  16. Yesterday we didnt have class, so yeap I was in Augusta. Where else will I be?LOL. I stayed in the bed and slept all day. I really dont sleep in Aiken well. I guess I get home sick. But how can I get home sick and I'm home everyday? I dont know I guess its just me...LOL!

  17. Vibe Session take two, well this past sunday I was able to experience a polo match for the first time which I thought was pretty neat. At first I was a little sceptical but once there it was an enjoyable experience. We were allowed to take pictures with the horses during intermission, and of course they feed us. Afterwards we did a little sight seeing in downtown aiken and got a chance to see its historical background which I thought was pretty cool considering that many of the places are old but still in running condition. As for Vibe Session three well I'll have some amazing stories to write on that thursday after the cookout housing is throwing us and some amazing festivaties.

  18. While AIken is a small town there are a couple things to do! Like alot of people, I love to shopp! There are a couple of stores that I like down here. There Ross has alot of things in it. There mall has alot of shoe stores and if you are like me I love Jordans! lol! Then they have a Rainbow that is in the mall is pretty good! These are just a few options that you can take when you are here in Aiken! Like I said before you might want to bring a car because staying on campus 24/7 will drive you crazy!! lol

  19. Today was no class for me because I am in ENV 300 only. However just because i didn't have class today doesnt mean that i didnt have nothing to do. I have to write a paper on the fireld trip we had yesterday and work on the final presentation. Its not alot but doing its the promblem. Alot of people right now ar e at home right now not doing nothing at all, but i am here at an educational program. But everyday iwake i am thnakful i am here, i just suck it up and get busy because the end result new friends, a great exprience, netwoking, a stipend, and not to mention college credit is not bad at all. I figured doing this work which is not that challenging at all is a small sacrafice everyone should make because you will leave this program with a whole lot more than just school credit and money. I think this is something everyone should think about.

  20. Today we didnt have class, but we had a meeting. Every wednesday we have to do a 1 minute paper on what we learned and what we wanna kno. I learn things everyweek so my paper is always full. We also got our checks.$$$$$$$$$$!!!! I been waiting on this since the first check...lol!

  21. Today we didnt have class, but I went out around Aiken to find what more does this town has to offer. We had a one minuate paper on the things we learn during the week, where we got our second installment of our stipend. Latern went to the Pacer Commons cookout. I am liking the perks of this internship.

  22. We didnt have class today but we had a meeting like we have every wednesday! But this one was a little different, WE GOT PAID!! We did our papers and we was out. They did discuss how we are going to have a birthday party for the June birthdays and I thought it was so sweet for them to have a party for the June bithdays. Then the dormitory threw a cookout and we all went outside and ate. It wasnt as fun as ours but it was ok.

It was great opportunity for the students to bond and get to know each other better. Also, on Sunday many of the interns accompanied professor Wilson to a polo match somewhere in town. From what I hear it was a blast! This just goes to show that as long as there is a will, there is a way to find something fun to do!

  24. This past wednesday there was a cookout for entire building. This was the first time i actually got to see who stayed in this building. man when there wa alot of people there. When there is free food i guess everyone comes out. But they had hamburgers, hotdogs, and chips. I saw the ra director and the other ra directors from the dorm next to us i saw the first day i got here. I think was a good idea because when people have their own apartment they tend to stay in them and keep to theselves. Or just generaly talk to or invite people they all ready know. I think thats not good and i applaude the staff here for trying to get everyone out and mingle. Way to go RA'S

It was ok i guess it had a couple things that I liked and picked up then we heaed to get something to eat. After we decided to stop at walmart so that we could pick up a couple of things. On our way out we seen this man laying on the ground I think he had passed out but we didnt stay too long after that. So we decided we just gone chill for the rest of the day!

  27. Even though I post all the fun things that we do on our spare time catching up on work is the ultimate thing that should bedone during free time. Since we got out of class fairly early today Im not gone lie i took a little nap but as soon as I woke up I finished my first draft of the assignment of our final project for Mr. Wilson. Now since I havent procratinated I have free time to do whatever I want to do as in play ping pong, volleyball. I think I will choose Ping Pong. Now all I have to do is find Emole!!!!!!!

  28. Some of the students here like to make last minute trips on the weekend. So Saturday we got out of class fairly early and on the way back to the dorm everyone is trying to figure out what to do for the weekend. A few students where going home. Next thing you know ther was no one left!! So my suite mate and i figured...what the heck!! Lets drive to Atlanta! So thats what we did. Its about 2 hours away, and there were alot of college students there for the greek picnic. I enjoyed myself although i didnt participate in any greek activities! We only stayed one night but it was good to get away.

  29. This weekend was good. Good thing I wasn't the only 1 who went home...LOL!!! I went to the dorm sunday to turn in a paper to Mr. Wilson and no one was there. It was only like 5 students there. Everybody else went home or took a trip somewhere. So after I turned in that paper I dipped too. What was I going stay for? I left there and went to the Y to workout and play bball. Oh yea, I got some cake from vanessa and geton...LOL!!!

  31. yo can anyone tell me were to find a weight room. Me being me well I am a gym rat and it is killing me not to be able to go to the gym and lift weights. Now for most of you out there I am not talking about your average golds gym where everything is brand spanking knew. I am talking about a good old fashion iron clad arena. Some place where when you can go with chains and bands and old lound clinky weights not one of these health centers where you run and theres a fan there to cool you off. I told the ta's if they could get me a 500lb tractor tire it would be much appreciated, i just need a little workout that's all.

  32. I know most people have said THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN AIKEN!!!!! But everyone there may be hope for Aiken tomorrow. The movie i have been waiting to come out for so long, TRANSFORMERS!!! Will be here tomorrow!!!!! That is the one thing I said I will be looking forward to all session long! I even told myself that i wasnt going to watch it online, because usually within in a few days of its release it is uploaded to the internet by lord knows who. By watch movies online this is how i got to save alot of money by not going to the movie theather. But tommorrow i will have no promblem shelling out a few dollars for a movie i think will be worth my while. Cuz hey remeber people there is really nothing to do in Aiken unless u make it what u want it to be!

  35. I woke up at about 10:30 today...nothin to do because everyone is in class or still asleep!! lol. I cooked breakfast and started packing my things. I really have enjoyed my stay here but i am ready to get back to a real city...and Aiken is definately not it!! I wish i could go swimming, play tennis or run but its way too hot, i migh pass out from a heat stroke! so i spend most of my days in my room on the computer surfing the web,on facebook, twitter and other sites. Who knowsw what today will hold!! Hopefully something exciting after my fellow interns return from class!

  36. This may seem really boring but I really love to read Environmental books and that is what I do on my spare time. It is feared that human activity is causing massive extinctions. From various animal species, forests and the ecosystems that forests support, marine life. The costs associated with deteriorating or vanishing ecosystems will be high. However, sustainable development and consumption would help avert ecological problems. This type of thing scares me so I read up on it.

They dont like when we play because we always win and ulike them we dont have to cheat to win we stay winning. because we have skill and not luck like they be having when they play.LMAO! i still love them though.

  40. At the beginning of the program Mr. Wilson gave me this Booklet about the space environment and Ive been reading it lately did you know that The ionosphere can absorb, delay or reflect certain frequencies of radio signals, therefore, the characteristics of the ionosphere have significant impact on the design and operation of communications systems between satellites and ground stations. The ionosphere is also important for groundtoground radio communications systems because they rely on the ability of the ionosphere to reflect radio waves to achieve long range. I was so interested. So lately I have been reading all of the content.

  42. Well when you are like me then it it a daily job to find somthing to do in the summer time, whether it is day or night. I cant be still, i alwys have to have something to do. I reaaly pay attention to the saying a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Every summer since i was a little kid i always had somthing to do. my mom made sure of that cuz she refused to deal with me in the house every day during the summer. It would drive her crazy. I would jump on things, break things, and the house would look a mess. So she had the smart idea to put me in something.
Adn even to this day i cant break it. i always must have something to do. For example, he other day we had a spades match. yeah im pretty good unlike some people i heard about. I was JJ's partner and he was lettting the other two girls get to him. The would do this dance and say somthing that would just make him so mad. This would happen even if we were winning. I just couldnt help but laugh cuz when he got mad it looked he turned into a red hot chili pepper. One time i even asked him did he want some water to cool down! But after a while i had to leave he just cryed too much people!!!!

  43. One of the things that we did was have a little gathering for My Birthday. It was fun. I really enjoyed it. Star had made me some brownies and they were killing them I had to take some away because they were going to eat them all. W listened to some music and just had a great time. I really like the vibe from everyone in thi session. It is alot more fun than it was last session. But It is a great program.

  44. In my free time I help my friend with his project on climate change. I started to learn things from this like is any long-term change in the patterns of average weather of a specific region or the Earth as a whole. Climate change reflects abnormal variations to the Earth's climate and subsequent effects on other parts of the Earth, such as in the ice caps over durations ranging from decades to millions of years.

We decided that we would have a birthday celebration on friday with cake and ice cream!! I wanted to have pizza but i guess that was too far fetch and the TA's dont wanna pay for that. I cant believe the program is endingd already :( im really gonna miss everybody and i hope we stay in touch. Love u guys!! Everyone is still planning on going to the movies tonight to see transformers. But at 10:50!! I hate late movies so idk if i will still go...

  47. Most of the time I am basically chilling with my girlfriend. We like to watch movies and I am so glad that she came to the session with me. My friends here always be making fun of us because it is like we are glued to the hip because we are always together. But i think that they are just some major HATERS! lol but other than that we chill with everybody else as well.

  48. For the most part I hang in my room sometimes I go hang around Vanessa and will and them and play spades. The movie i have been waiting to come out for so long, TRANSFORMERS. I also work on my final project climate change which consists of the result of a great many factors including the dynamic processes of the Earth itself, external forces including variations in sunlight intensity, and more recently by human activities. External factors that can shape climate are often called climate forcings and include such processes as variations in solar radiation, deviations in the Earth's orbit, and the level of greenhouse gas concentrations. There are a variety of climate change feedbacks that will either amplify or diminish the initial forcing.

For anyone else who is looking to get there workout on there is a family YMCA across the street, just go through the light and keep going around the road until you see it on your left. It is not an extremely huge gym but it is equiped with a weightroom, dumbells, pool, elipticals, treadmills and other fine machinary to get you that tight hot summer look. And for a charge of about 15 dollars I am will to help train anyone who would like it. Membership is 32 dollars for one month.
