Why did you apply?

In this thread, the student interns will tell you why they chose to apply to the Field Station.

  1. I chose to apply to the internship not because we get paid very well, not because we get college credit, not because we get free room and board, and not becuase it will look great on my resume. I chose the Feild Station because it opens up different opportunities and gives you hands on insight on field work. It also gives me more a chance to look at more careers than just the medical field. I was very happy that I got accepted and now that Im here its better than I expected. The Teacher Assisstants(TA) plan stuff for us to do outside of work. But I encourage everyone that is thinking about the program to apply!!!

  2. I choose to apply to the program for a variety of reasons. Honestly, the potential sixteen hundred dollar stipend was what caught my attention at first. However, once I took a closer look at the details of the program I was even more intrigued. We would be able to gain field experience as well as credits to be transferred back to our home institutions. Once I found out our living arrangements were taken care of as well I was determined to be a part of this program. It seemed like a productive and fun way to spend my summer.

  3. I chose this internship because i know my adviser will never steer me wrong. I didnt know of the program but he came to me very excited telling me how it would be a great learning experience. Which i know it is already.!! I think the part that caught my eye the most was the field experience that we would be able to conduct experiments and collect data on our own. And the best part about it is the program is not only for environmentally centered majors

  4. I chose this intern because this will be an invaluable learning experience for me as a college student. It’s also a necessity for me because my major is Industrial Engineering. This may help me gain "SOME" knowledge in my field. I could also gain network connections too. I also have this scholarship called STEM that requires me to have an internship every summer. This intern will help me maintain and keep my scholarship for the next 3 years. This internship is also located near my home town. This means I want be far from my family. In case of an emergency my mothe will be able to contact and get to me quick as possible. I will also save on some expenses I may have. This is the start of my future. I want to succeed and I will succeed.

  7. Well, i heard first about this program from a previous intern who described it as a priceless experience. Also important to mention is the fact that I think something related to the DOE looks good on a resume such as mine. I also like the fact that this program is not exclusively for environmental science majors, it encompasses many majors and this is not a bad idea at all.

  8. The SRESFS Internship program stood out among all internships. The advantages to this program have been testified by the alumni interns including my friends and relative. Their testimonies did not only convinced me of the program’s unprecedented benefits, but also for the fact that interns work with their professors and are exposed to different scientists that work at the site. I knew the SRESFS internship program will help me develop research, analytical and quantitative skills as I work with experts in this field of study. I also realized that this program will help give me an opportunity to experiment in and outside of the classroom, and get acquainted with the world around me. One of the key reasons I applied for the SRESFS internship program is that SRESFS interns become problem solvers in environmental science and they exhibit effective leadership.

  9. Well I applied for numerous reasons for one I needed some college course credit so that I can graduate this coming August. Two there this is thing call a stipend involved and I didn't have to pay for a place to stay. But on a more serious tip when I graduate I plan on working for the Natural Resource Conservation Services, I felt that doing this internship and gaing more knowledge in a feild of study that I am already passionate about would hopefully make me a more valuable assest and help me to make accurate and concise decisions once I begin work with them. Will it well we will see when I begin work.

  11. I enoyed my experience last year as an intern and wanted to come back. I feel that I needed to take more courses in environmental science in order to become more diverse and well-rounded as a biological science major. The hands on experience that I received last year exceeded my expectations and has influenced me to apply to the internship again. I thank God for this opportunity to attend this session and continue to take courses in environmental science.

  12. Well a question was posted to us why did we apply? To tell you the truth i have always had some kind of activty to do over the summer. i never was at home just doing nothing. I would go crazy and drive everyone crazy who was in my house or path. So doing something this summer was pertent. And i saw this as an opportunty when my bio teacher was talking about it during class time. And i saw no one else wanted to do it saw i decide to do it. My teacher was happy and she told me all about the rest of the program. When i heard about everythign we would be doing i saw this as a great opportunity to get out the house, do something fun, and educational. So i filled out the application and sent it in. When i was told that i ahd gotten accpeted i was overjoyed and coulnd wait to get here!!!!

  15. My friend told me abot htis program and at first I was going to turn it down but I am so glad that I did not because this offers a wide variety of oppertunities. I am not going to lie when I fond ou that we were getting paid for each session and college credit I think that alone bought me but since I have been here I can honestly say that if ther was no money I would not be that much disappionted because I am having a blast.
